A Blogger’s Worst Nightmare (or one of them)

Oh my…it’s happened…my computer has died. I’m creating my first post on my smart phone (a little bit scary since I don’t see all the same buttons, bells and whistles, plus there’s that darn autocorrect — and what happens when the phone rings?). So now I’m scrambling to find the money for a new computer and cursing the universe because that money should be going into savings or toward a new sofa.

Life isn’t fair sometimes.

I got this job house-sitting not long ago, and it paid well. I was thrilled. I needed some dental work, and when you need dental work, you need it. It was a little disappointing the money couldn’t have been used for something more fun, but c’est la vie. I refused to be grateful and resentful at the same time. (It did take me a remarkably long time to make that dental appointment, though.)

However, now I’m stuck realizing lightning doesn’t strike twice, nor do I want it to. I had to move my cats with me for the house-sitting, and I can’t do that to them again. So getting a new computer may take some time.

But that’s life, I guess. (I’m saying that a lot, aren’t I?) I’m not happy about it, but I can’t waste time whining. Because right now I have to figure out how to get images on this post. And a caption with the image so it makes sense. If it isn’t one thing…

  1. It happened to me some months back and hasn’t yet been solved. I have been blogging through my smartphone. The problems are:
    1. It takes a lot of time to do a post.
    2. Adding links is troublesome.
    3. Sometimes the articles disappear for no apparent reason.
However, I have been publishing one post a week for sometime now. Have learned about Copy-Paste on the phone. I have ventured into blogging in the different way.
The WordPress app has auto save, so there is no need to be worried that it could be lost if the phone rings. And I have written this on smartphone.

    1. Thank you! I’ve been working on another post on my phone, and so far, so good. It’s a lot slower, as you mentioned, and I prefer seeing the preview on the different formats. If this is all I have, I’m thankful it works as well as it does! But I’ll be glad if and when I get a new computer.

  2. I do all my blogging from my iPhone or iPad (mainly my phone), and it can be frustrating at times. I, personally, prefer to open safari to access WordPress while posting something new. The app seems to have too many glitches when it comes to posting. It’s fine for checking notifications and browsing the reader, though. I hope you find yourself the right computer soon. Take care. 😊

    1. I’ve been checking posts and the like from my phone for a long time and you’re right, it works fine for that. Even emergency edits, although I struggle to figure out how to save changes every time. But doing all my blogging by smart phone is tedious. Oh well. I keep telling myself, at least I have this option!

      1. I may get a new computer when I go back to school, but in the mean time my best bet is my smart phone. I’m glad you are able to keep blogging, though! You’re right … at least you do have that option 😊

  3. So sorry to hear of your computer issues. We all know money doesn’t buy happiness, but having more than enough sure makes the day-to-day problems that arise a lot easier to deal with! Your movie reviews are great; have you tried submitting them anywhere for publication? Also, if you decide to start a GoFundMe (or something like that) I’d be happy to pitch in. I’m still job searching, so we both must stay positive…my grandma used to say, “Better days ahead!” 🙂

  4. Belinda, I really feel for you. A computer is such an imporant “link” to so many things that we do. It’s definitely a tough expense when it’s so sudden.
Well, I’m impressed how you posted with your Smartphone so well. I’ve had trouble with that.
I’ll be thinking of you and hoping it all works out. It’s certainly a “hard drive” when things “crash” (sorry, I had to make a pun).
