I think your link to the Classics pages are very good. I love these old movies, and it seems I have seen every one of them, many in the original. Very effective.

it isnt an age thing so much anymore…these old films were so good they are ageless. They are supported ny good acting and excellent plots…not dependant on gratuitous sex and cuss words.

I completely agree. They were plot dependent, and that isn’t easy. And most remain surprisingly contemporary!

I read someplace that there are but a few basic plots…and then variations in era, place, genre. I used to go to the theater by myself, if I couldn’t get anyone to go with me.

I’ve read that too, and I’ve always been curious what it means — how skeletal it is. There is definitely a way to tell stories so it makes sense. As for going to the theater by yourself, I never had a problem doing that either. I remember seeing “Somewhere in Time” with Christopher Reeve back in 1979 by myself…and nine other women who went to the theater that night, alone. We were the entire audience. But then, Christopher Reeve in those days was swoony. 🙂 I don’t think the movie was that remarkable, however.

wow…that is my favorite film. One of my daughters bought me a DVD of it. I love the story, the cast, the plot…especially the music ! In fact I have been thinking about the movie ever since we began this conversation…amazing!

How funny! I haven’t seen it since that first time, and I loved it then, but I’ve always been told it wasn’t much of a movie…friends teased me because I had such a crush on Christopher Reeve (and who wouldn’t!). But at that time, at least, I was an incredible romantic and the whole idea of time travel was tremendously appealing. Well, it still is, time has just made me much more cynical!

He was wonderful. I loved him in the original Superman movie too. He played it so tongue in cheek.

Really good, I’m a recent fan of the Classics and it is great to see a compilation of reviews that will, without doubt, lead me to new discoveries. If nothing else you have made my day. Thankyou. Going to watch Laura tonight. I’m in Phnom Penh so it’s getting dark already.

I hope you enjoy it! I love the Classics. My reviews so far have almost exclusively been of movies from the 30s and 40s, but there are some greats from the 50s as well. I hope I’ve helped you find some more you can enjoy! I don’t know what’s available where you live.
