I took this picture the day before our annual visit to the vet. They look pretty content, don’t they? Well, not on the morning of our visit. Getting Walter into the carrier takes two people. Mimi goes in easier, but she’s scared. Both of them are. Still, I want my babies to be healthy, so we do it. They’ll go back to being happy soon enough. Like, as soon as we get home and I put those carriers away!

My World With Words 
I have not been bringing my cats in for their regular checkups. My vet has adopted this package pricing, of which I am not a fan. Over $300 each to include everything to ‘keep ahead of anything that might be going on with your kitty.’ Well, I don’t always want everything and they do not break things out. I complained. They listened. Yet they still send me emails and texts…”time for **insert cat name here** to be seen by your friendly vet.”

If my vet charged that much, I doubt I’d be able to afford it. My vet did give me a quote for other testing, but eek! Again, I can’t afford it. At some point, I’ll probably figure out a way to pay for some of it, but not this year.

I just experienced this with my 6mo old kittens. Remy got in the carrier no problem but Lily kept escaping even with a small opening to push her in. She also escapes to the garage. They were fixed yesterday.

I don’t know if I ever relayed my carrier story, Belinda. When I was a kid, we took our cat to the vet in a carrier. Somehow, after getting carrier with kitty into the parked auto, it became carrier without kitty. I swear, our cat was running around the top of the car on the fabric under the hood, and made two complete laps. That was quite the car ride…!

I’ve heard carrier horror stories and they scare the bejeebers out of me! It sounds like you still had the cat in the end, which is a happier ending than many stories I hear. Anyway, it sounds like quite the car and clearly was memorable!

I think it’s important to have regular vet visits for your pets. This is a part of the information young people should be introduced to when they want a pet. They could earn the monthly pet fee. Of course, it depends on how young the children. I speak from experience. When my third child got old enough, I gave the vet bill to him. It was only $55 a month. Part my direction for this is painting a whole picture about responsibility. When they get older, they will consider all it means to take care of a pet. They become part of the family.

I think so many people forget how expensive it can be to get proper care for your pets. I try to save as much as I can toward the expense, but I fear it won’t be enough as they age. I can only do what I can do. Pet insurance is really expensive, so that’s not an option. Oh well.
