Mimi and the Vacuum

I live in a small, kind of shabby apartment. That being said, it’s important to keep it clean. But I have the hardest time vacuuming on a regular basis because it scares the cats so much. Okay, you may have a hard time believing that when you see this picture. When the vacuum isn’t in use, the cats are fine with it, which is a good thing since I have no room for it in the coat closet. Or anywhere else. It stays in a corner in the living room. But the second I move toward it, the cats scram. And I feel bad about that. Maybe I should get a Roomba.

I’m really brave as long as this thing is off!

  1. Parker (my oldest) has convinced Pumpkin (my youngest) that the vacuum is just a lot of noise. The other three cats are less than convinced and agree with Mimi that the best thing to do is scram!!

  2. Good Morning, Belinda! When our Z Cat was still alive I had 2 upright vacuums and she hated and feared them. Got rid of them and bought a Dyson… more quiet. She tolerated it for a few minutes and ran to the basement. Bought Rita the Roomba and she sat and watched it. Then she followed where it went. Then she got on her cat tree and supervised from above. That’s our story 😊 I am surprised Mimi is so close to the vacuum!

    1. Yes, when I’m not touching the vacuum, the cats are fine with it. They know the noise will start once I get going! I’ve considered a Roomba before, especially in the hopes that it would clean out under the bed. There’s so much kitty litter tracked in there and it bugs me. So we’ll see if I get one and if I do, how the cats respond!

  3. Hey, when I take the vacuum out of the closet Mrs. B heads for cover. She has never liked the noise of that particular appliance, so I gladly assumed those duties early on. She gladly assists in keeping the vacuum clean and free of debris, so it is not like she can’t be around it. But when that sucker is turned on, she’s finding something else to do in another room. My cat was also a non-fan of the vacuum, finding someplace else to wait out the cleaning process.
