Checkin’ It Out

I (finally) assembled the kitties new scratching post, with a little help from a friend. Walter and Mimi weren’t clear on what it is right away. The circled it, sniffed it, and walked away. Fortunately, by the next day they were both scratching on it. Alas, a little late to save my wicker chairs. You might notice the top of the post–the picture in the instructions showed a wider berth, wide enough for a cat to sit on. Clearly what we have is too small for that. But overall we’re happy!

Perfect, Mama!

  1. My cats will sit on the cat tree/scratching post, but scratch on it? Not a chance. My furniture is taking a beating. 2

Wal-Mart had some cute corrugated cardboard pieces that I bought. I sprinkle a little catnip and my cats love them. The couch is a personal favorite.

      1. They are surprisingly sturdy. Nugget likes the x-shaped one–she fits right on top of it and falls asleep. They all like the one with the balls in the middle. But still they scratch my furniture! Rascals.

  2. I think it’s great that they aren’t scratching on the wicker! That texture and the long stretch is sure to make that a good post. Our Z Cat loved her sisal post. We adopted her at 7 months and she didn’t waste a minute finding our furniture to her liking. I tried every scratching post out there and then began to realize the she loved the carpeted ones and they were teaching her to scratch on our carpet… oops. Got rid of the carpeted scratchers and she chose sisal. Also the corrugated cardboard—she loved them. What she really loved was a big three foot log my husband brought in from the woods. We debugged it and put it on the four seasons porch and it became the favorite. Not the prettiest thing in the house but she really gave it a workout. She couldn’t give up the carpeted steps though🙂

    1. They seem to like the sisal–it’s taking a little bit of time, but hopefully it becomes a favorite. I’ve heard good things about the corrugated cardboard, so I think I’ll try that as well. As for carpeting, we’ll, they like the rugs but so far have stayed away from the carpet. Fingers crossed!
